1. A strange little record, but a great one too – a posthumous album that took older Wes Montgomery sides and souped them up a bit after his death! The core material here is quartet recordings done in – Montgomery's guitar in a hip group with Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Jimmy Cobb on drums – other material recorded at the same time as the Smokin Brand: Verve (Label).

If you are into the sounds Herbie Hancock was making around the time of Sextant and Mwandishi, this is for you. Just smoking jazz funk with a big band and analog synths. Run, don’t walk, folks.

6. I've sampled a few other Montgomery albums (my other favorite being The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery) but this has the best mood. The last three tunes are devine! His lilting, slow vibrato phrasing in tunes like "Oh! You Crazy Moon" and "Misty" make this a winning selection for those who like a little blue in their jazz/5(11).
